Jerry Seinfeld is the Devil

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

or he may be married to her!

Let them eat BEETS!

…I kid.

My wife, who is always looking for ways to have our family eat healthier, bought Jessica Seinfeld’s cookbook.  If you’re unfamiliar with the book, it’s about ways to sneak healthy foods into things kids like to eat.  Sacrilegious!

This week, I’ve been subjected to spaghetti with squash snuck in and chicken nuggets with sweet potatoes in the breading.  THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT SHOULD NOT BE CONSUMED!  Squash and sweet potatoes are at the top of my list!

Actually, you couldn’t taste either one and more importantly… my kids ate it with no complaints.  Any of you with kids knows what a challenge that can be.  “I” however, complained loudly… and was promptly told to make my own damn dinner from now on.

Sorry, honey. You’re pretty! Bring on the chocolate cake with spinach! Yum.

Cholesterol, My Eye!

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Apparently, I’m falling apart! :)  If you listen to our show, you know that Jesse & I went to a chiropractor last summer and they told me that my right clavicle is dropping.  God only knows how that happens.  Then I go in for a routine physical and get slammed with high cholesterol this past December.  As you know, I’ve been working on getting fit and eating better this year to take care of that.

My youngest daughter came home with a note from the school nurse saying that she had mixed up two colors and needed an eye exam.  My wife lost her reading glasses about two years ago, so all three of us went in for eye exams.  I went in first.  First they put me through the regular charts, glaucoma screen, etc.  Then the doctor came in and looked around the inside of my eye.  He finishes, gives me a look, and asks if I’ve had a physical lately.  I said yes.  He asks if I’ve had any blood work done.  Strange, no?  I said yes and that my cholesterol was a bit high.  He says, “I thought so…”

Ready for it… “I could see the cholesterol building up IN YOUR EYE!”  OMG!  I’ve got FAT EYES!  Not to mention an astigmatism in my right eye and a little near-sightedness.

So I’ve got to find a way to exercise my eyes, and we all walked out with new glasses. (Actually they’re coming in two weeks.)  I think Jesse’s right, I may be dying this year! LOL!  Get your bets in on which day.

Btw… weigh in this morning… 198.6!  Down a pound!

Date Night

Friday, January 25th, 2008

I’m taking my wife out on a date tonight, just the two of us.  This is the first time we’ve gone out since last summer.  Why has it been so long?  We had a terrific babysitter who went and left for college.  Damn higher education!

My kids are super easy to babysit.  At 11 and 7, they’re pretty self sufficient.  Not quite old enough to be left alone though… they’d kill each other.  That being said, Amy & I are still very picky - as everyone should be - about who watches our kids.  Also, being relatively new to town, we don’t really know enough people to have a lot of choices.  We’ve got a new sitter we’re trying out tonight for the first time.  She seems like a really nice kid, and she’s still got 3 years of school left, so I hope it goes well.

Our big plans: Dinner & “The Bucket List”

I may have to have a big steak.  I was really good yesterday.  Amy wanted to go to lunch at Taco Bell, so I tried one of the Fresco Chicken Burritos (only 9 grams of fat).  For dinner, my daughters made chef salad with lots of veggies and I had a nectarine for dessert.  This morning… Cheerios.

I did some cardio and crunches yesterday.  Today, back to the gym for circuits.  We haven’t done a weigh-in on the air in a few days, but I’m still hovering right around 200.  This morning - 199.6

Have a great weekend!

Shotgun ruins everything

No Anti-Gym today.  The guys were all set to come in today and “do my measurements”.  I was cool with them doing that and making fun of me for being fat.  Apparently, I was also expected to do a full-on workout in the studio as well.  Since I wasn’t keen on that, with having to stick around the office all day sweaty & stinky, apparently we had to cancel.  Sorry for waking you up early guys.

I did hit the gym yesterday.  20 minutes of cardio and I did the circuit training.  My muscles aren’t hurting too bad, but my joints (shoulders, hips) are KILLING me!  I took Jesse’s advice and hit the steam room for 10 minutes before hand which actually worked wonders!

Food wise, it was an OK day.  Our superstar GM Don brought in brownies for Jesse and I to commiserate the Packers’ loss.  I had one.  For lunch, I had a sandwich of leftover pork roast.  After my workout I had one of those 100 calorie snack bags of Ritz crackers.  The girls wanted to go out for dinner, so we hit Sweet Tomatoes.  I had a salad with lots of veggies and a bowl of vegetable soup.  This morning… Cheerios.

I may not be dropping weight very fast, but I’m definitely feeling better already.

Lucky Day

Monday, January 21st, 2008

So Jesse says this morning that because I’m not dropping the weight as fast as HE’D like, he wants to get one of the guys from the Anti-Gym to come and and tell me how fat I am.  Super!  You know, a guy just can’t get enough of having all of his faults pointed out… daily.  Jesse normally handles that job himself, but now he’s bringing in reinforcements.

“Thank you, sir, may I have another!”
Just another reason I love my job.

Riveting Reading for Jesse.

Mean Boss Bill told me yesterday that my blog needs to include what I ate the day before.  I’m trying to drop some weight.  I’ve added excercise to my routine and I’ve been watching what I eat.  Plus, I got the news from the doctor that my cholesterol is high (see below) so I have to change some things in my diet as well.  That’s the tough part because I admit… I love good food.  Case in point, Thursday was not the best day for me food-wise.

Lunch: Jesse and I didn’t do fast food on the way home, but when I got to my house I saw that we didn’t have anything there that was “apporoved” on my new food list, so I met Amy for lunch at Subway.  Subway Club with green peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, & onions.  Diet Coke & Baked Lays.

Dinner: Amy made Chicken a la King in bread bowls. Soooo good, but not necessarily good for the waist. :)  Also, my daughter Kylie made peanut butter chocolate chip cookies.  I had one hot out of the oven, and one after dinner. (I know.  The guilt was killing me.)

Breakfast: Honey Nut Cheerios again.

Amy and I are going to grab more fresh fruits and cholesterol friendly food when we go grocery shopping.

I did 20 minutes of cardio and some cruches for exercise.  I weighed in this morning at 199.2.  Still dropping, but s-l-o-w-l-y.

I will hit the gym today and probably tomorrow, too.  Sunday will be a free day, though.  Nosh food, chili, and lots of beer for the NFC Championship Game.  GO PACK!!

Mean Boss Bill Decree #1

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Our boss has decided that to further my humiliation help me with my weight loss plan, that I should catalog for you everything I eat each day.  So I will update you on the past 24 hours during each morning’s show.  I hope it’s as thrilling and inspirational for you as I’m sure it will be for me.  LOL.

Wednesday, January 16:
Lunch - Jesse & I hit fast food every day.  I had two grilled chicken snackers and a small diet Coke. (I bought, btw)

Dinner - We were at Brauns for the pre-party for the Brad Paisley concert and I ate from the nosh food they had set out.  I ate 2 hot wings, 2 spring rolls, and four of these little pork dumplings.  I washed it down with a 20oz. Blue Moon and half a bottle of Coors Light.

Breakfast - This morning I had a small bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios (about 1 cup dry) with skim milk.

I also hit the gym yesterday between lunch and dinner for a circuit of weight lifting and 20 minutes of cardio.

Holy Hypertension, Batman!

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

So in my continuing quest to get healthy, my doctor had me get some blood work done.  If you were listening to our show yesterday morning, you know I had to go in to get my results yesterday afternoon.

First of all, I had to wait in the room for 40 minutes between the nurse taking my blood pressure and the doctor coming in.  Plenty of time to read the literature on the walls.  First thing I read is a Body Mass Index (BMI) chart.  I looked up my weight (200lbs.) and my height (5′10″).  That translates into a BMI of 29.  If you’re unfamiliar with the chart, 25-29 is overweight… 30 is the beginning of OBESE!  Holy crap!  I need to get down to 170 just to be on the upper side of normal!  That’s a bit depressing. LOL!

The doctor came in with the numbers:
Total Cholesterol - 250 (Should be < 200)
LDL Cholesterol - 181 (< 100)
HDL Cholesterol - 33 (> 44)
Triglycerides - 213 (< 150)

Apparently there is so much crap in my veins, that if I get cut… I may bleed butter. LOL!  I guess it’s time to cut out the double cheeseburgers and usher in the fish oil tablets. Yum!

I Was Bad.

Monday, January 14th, 2008

It was not a great weekend for the weight loss program.

First of all, I didn’t make it to the gym as planned on Friday.  Mean Boss Bill had me putting together a Johnny Cash special that will run on willie925.com tomorrow (1/15).  I worked on that all afternoon and evening on Friday, stopping only long enough to take the girls out to dinner.  Their choice for dinner? Fuddruckers.  I know, healthy.

Saturday we were running around the outlet malls in Castle Rock so the girls could spend some more Christmas money (see related blog below).  Lunch at Taco Bell.  We got home in time to watch our Packers whoop up on the Seahawks… and ordered pizza for dinner.

Sunday was a bit better.  I made scrambled eggs and ham for breakfast, we had leftover pizza for lunch and Amy made stir fry for dinner.  Exercise?  Not much.  I did some crunches on Saturday and 20 minutes of cardio on Sunday.  I’m going to have to make up for it this week.

The thing that stinks is that I finally moved backwards a bit on the scale Friday.  I checked in at 200lbs.  I’ll probably be back up today.

Exercise Ain’t for Sissies.

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

So I’ve been exercising regularly for a week now and it hasn’t been pretty.  I’ve been watching what I eat, doing cardio every day, and doing circuit training Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat.  My kids are digging it because at least a couple days a week they get to swim at the Rec center pool for an hour while I work out.  My wife is on board as well.  She’s going with me to the gym and we are keeping each other motivated.  We’ve both been talking about getting healthier for a while now and we’ve decided to commit.  Amy (my wife) is awesome.  She has been cooking healthier foods and we’ve been eating at home more often.

I’ve been weighing in on our morning show every day around 7:30AM.  Here’s the tally so far…
1/2 - 199.0
1/3 - 199.4
1/7 - 200.4
1/8 - 201.0
1/9 - 201.8

As you can see, I’ve been gaining weight every stinking day!  People are saying that the weight is added muscle, but I can’t believe I’ve gained three pounds of muscle in a week.  At this rate, I’ll be 300 lbs!

Either way, I’m in it for the long haul.  Hopefully those numbers will start heading the other way soon.
