Holy Hypertension, Batman!

So in my continuing quest to get healthy, my doctor had me get some blood work done.  If you were listening to our show yesterday morning, you know I had to go in to get my results yesterday afternoon.

First of all, I had to wait in the room for 40 minutes between the nurse taking my blood pressure and the doctor coming in.  Plenty of time to read the literature on the walls.  First thing I read is a Body Mass Index (BMI) chart.  I looked up my weight (200lbs.) and my height (5′10″).  That translates into a BMI of 29.  If you’re unfamiliar with the chart, 25-29 is overweight… 30 is the beginning of OBESE!  Holy crap!  I need to get down to 170 just to be on the upper side of normal!  That’s a bit depressing. LOL!

The doctor came in with the numbers:
Total Cholesterol - 250 (Should be < 200)
LDL Cholesterol - 181 (< 100)
HDL Cholesterol - 33 (> 44)
Triglycerides - 213 (< 150)

Apparently there is so much crap in my veins, that if I get cut… I may bleed butter. LOL!  I guess it’s time to cut out the double cheeseburgers and usher in the fish oil tablets. Yum!

Oatmeal and a glass of red wine at night can help with your cholesterol as well as the phytochemicals in red wine will help to eliminate anti-oxidants (which can lead to cancer)!!

I’m a nutrition & fitness major so I pick up weird tid-bits like this. Hope it helps!!

Your total cholesterol is not extremely high. All you have to do is lose a little weight and exercise and you will be fine. Exercise will increase your HDL’s (good cholesterol) and losing weight will lower your LDL’s (bad cholesterol). Don’t worry, you should be able to manage this.
